Cisco To Triple Indian Workforce

Cisco To Triple Indian Workforce

December 8th, 2006: Cisco has announced that it will be upping its significant investment in India again with plans to triple its workforce there over the next three to five years.

In October 2005 Cisco announced that it would be pouring US$1.1 billion into the country, this latest announcement that it will be increasing its workforce from the current 2,000 to over 6,000 by 2011 shows just how important India is becoming in the global IT market.

John Chambers, Chairman and CEO of Cisco Systems says that India is an important market for Cisco’s global growth. To emphasise this, India will be the site for the company’s new globalisation centre.

Called "Cisco Globalization Center East," the centre will enable Cisco to establish a significant presence in Asia according to newly appointed chief globalization officer Wim Elfrink.

"Cisco chose India as the location from which to expand its globalization vision because India has a highly skilled workforce, supportive government, innovative customers and world-class partners that already have global capabilities," said Chambers.

"Cisco will lead the market transition being driven out of India with our talented employees and partners across the globe to meet the needs of customers on every continent in the world."
