Check Point Nabs NFR

December 21st, 2006: Security big wig Check Point has announced that it will be acquiring NFR security and expanding its enterprise intrusion protection capabilities.

In a deal worth AU$20 million, the company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire NFR Security and its real-time threat prevention technology. It says that when combined with its SmartDefense shield, NFR’s Hybrid Detection Engine (HDE) will offer enterprises precise, real-time attack prevention.

Check Point claims that NFR’s Sentivist solution goes beyond standard intrusion detection techniques and protects against all manner of attacks, including intrusion attacks, insidious zero-day attacks, anomaly exploits, malicious code, backdoors, command tampering, polymorphic buffer overflows and more.

It says that NFR’s granular and accurate attack detection will be an excellent addition to its pre-emptive type-based protection, and give it the edge to keep ahead of the competition.

“This acquisition is an important step in Check Point’s leadership strategy,” said, founder and CEO Gil Shwed. “It is part of our focus on two primary layers: network security as our core platform and our recently announced expansion into data security.

“NFR’s proven security solutions provide the most powerful intrusion detection and prevention technology we have found in the market. We will integrate NFR’s technologies into our unified security architecture to provide the industry’s broadest and best managed security solutions.”
