HP Shows Its Integrity

September 8th, 2006: HP has announced an overhaul of its line of Integrity servers, doubling the performance of its previous generation and offering it at half the cost of competitive solutions.

HP claims that it has significantly ramped up the performance of its servers, while also increasing power efficiency and flexibility. It has extended the multi-operating system capabilities of its Virtual Server Environment, enabling greater flexibility and expandability with support for HP-UX 11i, Microsoft Windows, Linux or OpenVMS operating environments. Later this year, it also plans to add support for Windows to Integrity Virtual Machines, allowing multiple operating system instances to share a single processor.

HP is also touting a host of improvements in energy efficiency thanks to its zx2 chipset. It says that this new chipset helps its Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 cut power and cooling costs by up to 50 precent. The Integrity line has also doubled its capacity with the new dual-core Intel Itanium 2 “Montecito” processor. HP says that all of these improvements bring mainframe-calibre high availability at entry-level server prices.

“This new server lineup is a key example of HP’s Adaptive Infrastructure offerings, which help customers stay ahead of changing business and IT demands and enable them to build cost-effective, next-generation data centres,” says Peter Hall, Vice President and General Manager, Business Critical Systems, Technology Solutions Group, HP Asia Pacific. “Asia Pacific customers can now respond even more quickly to business requirements with Integrity as a core component of their adaptive infrastructure.”

HP Integrity servers running Montecito processors and the HP-UX 11i v2 operating environment and Windows recently set world records in industry-standard benchmarks, including:

  • · Leadership performance for J2EE with HP-UX 11i JVM versus IBM Power 5+ and Sun UltraSPARC for single-node and multi-node Java workloads
  • · Leadership performance for JVM with HP-UX 11i HotSpot VM versus IBM Power 5+ and Sun UltraSPARC for Java business workloads
  • · Leadership single CPU performance and system throughput
  • · Leadership online transaction processing performance for HP-UX 11i and Windows
  • · Leadership business intelligence performance for HP-UX 11i and Windows

HP says that its new servers reinforce its long-held position as the premier high-end UNIX system vendor, at least by IDC analyst estimates.
