Cisco to Cut Emissions 25 Percent

June 26, 2008: Cisco is making bold steps forward in the green IT stakes, announcing that it will be taking a multi-pronged approach to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for a 25 percent total reduction by 2012.

The company claims it will make big strides towards its goal over the next four years, and will focus on the power of technology to meet its objectives and to demonstrate how its customers can do the same.

"Every corporation has a responsibility to help address climate change and to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment," said Cisco Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Chambers at Cisco Live!, the company's annual information technology and communications conference.

Chambers says that Cisco will achieve its goal by not only curbing its own greenhouse gas emissions, but also by taking advantage of the power of networking technology to better manage its environmental concerns.

“By deploying innovative information technology solutions and using the network as a platform for 21st-century environmental management, we believe we can significantly alter our greenhouse gas footprint and help our customers meet their sustainability goals," said Chambers.
