3PAR's Utility Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) Solution Available In Australia and New Zealand
Month Date, 2006: Local IT systems Integrator and data centre solutions specialist, Sententia Pty Ltd, will be showcasing the 3PAR utility DLM storage at the SNIA Australia Storage Networking World, 2006.
The 3PAR InServ is a modular, scalable enterprise class storage system with up to 192 integral FC ports that can interconnect mixed-vendor storage and servers. It can also implement storage management functions from the desktop.
3PAR has a modular design, borrowing the concept of tape library magazines to achieve a high density storage format. Ten disk magazines, each with room for four disk drives, can be stacked in a 4U chassis, with four chassis in a cabinet this can scale to a drive count of 2,560 disk drives.
3PAR components can fail-over to one another, and each component can be hot-replaced without affecting other activities. Running on each controller, 3PAR's operating system, InForm, offers administrative features such as volume management (discrete of each component), virtualisation, and multiple point-in-time copies, essentially removing storage administration burdens from servers and operating systems.
3PAR's InServ enables remote, IP WAN-based mirroring. 3PAR's InServ also offer's resiliency because the distributed InForm OS coordinates the activities of every storage controller, taking tasks running on potentially faulty controllers and automatically switching them to the survivors, for example.
