Emulex Surges Ahead With 4GB/s Design

July 18th, 2006: Design wins give it 100 percent storage market vendor penetration says company.

Emulex has announced that after 80 design wins for its 4gb/s design series it has 100 percent of the storage vendor market covered. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) has provided storage networking solutions to projects with HP, Sun, EMC and NetApp. Most recently the company entered a partnership with IBM to incorporate Emulex lightpulse LP1105-BC dual-channel host bus adapters (HBAs) into the IBM BladeCenter.

Alan Wallman, Europe Middle East and Africa vice president at Emulex, says, “We are now working with 100 per cent of server and storage vendors to deploy fully supported 4Gb/s SAN connectivity solutions and are delighted to see the tremendous growth surrounding 4 Gb/s penetration into the marketplace. Driven by the ever-increasing demand of enterprise applications, we see the 4 Gb/s market continuing to increase and look forward to further partnerships that will enable end-users to get the most out of fibre channel technology”.

Since its first involvement with 4 Gb/s technology in 2005 Emulex has done well with a first to market design win for HP and the 4Gb/s PCI Express HBAs, and a win with CEA to develop the largest supercomputer in Europe, comprising several hundred 4 Gb/s Emulex HBAs. Emulex predicts the adoption of 8Gb/s as early as 2008.
