HP Shows Off The Family

July 27th, 2006: HP has announced it will provide a family of networked storage products for small to medium-size customers in the storage market.

The products are designed to compete with EMC, NetApp and Adaptec for smaller-sized customers. The company says the new solutions will simplify the process of migrating data from application servers to shared network storage. Upgrade options will exist for users as their business grows, from 24 terabytes for the modular smart array (MSA) to 72 terabytes for the enterprise virtual array (EVA) to 332 terabytes for the XP array.

Debbie Young, worldwide marketing manager for HP's StorageWorks division, says the new family is about simplifying the market, “Networked storage is still too complex. You need an MBA to make a simple move to networked storage today”. She adds that HP is creating machines with all of the bells and whistles of a networked storage device, minus the costs and implementation challenges.

Pricing will range from US $5,000 per terabyte up to $10,000 for higher capacities. The products will be launched worldwide in September says HP.
