EMC and Intel Collaborate On Storage

April 5th, 2006: To attack the growing storage needs of small to medium sized businesses (SMBs), EMC and Intel have joined forces to improve their storage offerings.

The two companies will be collaborating to improve Intel’s processor technology in networked storage systems, and enhance EMC’s storage architectures.

The partnership will also see Intel offering a new networked storage system, the SSR212PP, based on EMC’s Clariion AX150. Expected to be available at the start of May, the SSR212PP will support up to 12 serial ATA II (SATA II) disk drives in a 2U rack set up, delivering a maximum capacity of six terabytes in a single array.

“EMC and Intel are sharply focused on driving platform innovation and efficiencies that solve the IT challenges of small and medium businesses,” says Hans Geyer, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Storage Group. “By working with EMC to deliver standards-based storage platforms, we are bringing leading enterprise storage value and technology to Intel customers worldwide.”Comment on this story
