Theiss Picks Dimension Data

April 12th, 2006: Dimension Data has won a $2.65 million contract with the Australian engineering firm Theiss to provide equipment and services to upgrade its current JD Edwards Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

With a turnover of $3 billion, Theiss’ operations are managed out of its Brisbane data centre. This is built on Sun Microsystems infrastructure and is one of the largest JD Edwards implementations in Australia.

To upgrade the installation, Dimension Data put together an upgrade solution consisting of a Sun Fire E6900 server powered by Sun's UltraSPARC IV processor running Sun's Solaris Operating System. The storage system will be updated with Sun StorageTek 9985 storage arrays and a Sun StorageTek L500 modular tape library.

In addition to putting together the solution, Dimension Data will also be overseeing its installation and support.

“We worked collaboratively with Sun, who provided great assistance during the design phase of the engagement with Thiess, enabling our technical team to produce a compelling solution within very tight timeframes,” says Ronnie Altit, national business manager, Data Centres and Storage, Dimension Data.

“Dimension Data was also able to combine a number of maintenance and support contracts incorporating multiple vendors, simplifying contract management and synchronisation for Thiess. By entrusting Dimension Data with the entire support role, Thiess can be confident of 24/7 uptime.”
