ADIC Upgrades Scalar i2000 Tape Platform

January 11, 2006: Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) has announced a number of upgrades to its Scalar i2000 intelligent tape library, claiming increased backup performance, reliability, and manageability in enterprise environments.

The new release also includes optional media integrity analysis software that allows the tracking of alert trends in media and drives. This makes the Scalar i2000 the first library to integrate the ability to store, download, and analyse the pattern of alert events that are associated with specific pieces of media.

The number of supported tape drives has also doubled, allowing 96 to be run in a single configuration. ADIC claim that this gives much greater performance as the higher number of drives can produce greater throughput through aggregation. It also now supports LTO drives from HP.

"Consolidating multiple library operations in a single resource can give users huge gains in productivity and substantial reductions in TCO." says Bill Britts, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ADIC. "Because the Scalar i2000 offers both more drives and integrated partitioning, it makes consolidation easier to implement and simplifies installation of backup systems that combine tape and disk.”

The upgrades will be available from January 2006.
