Overland Pins Hopes To Tape

Overland Pins Hopes To Tape

January 30, 2006: It has been an uneasy couple of months for Overland. It’s lost a major deal with HP, fought off a hostile takeover from rival Advanced Digital Information Corp. (ADIC) and last week announced a second quarter loss. Now it is looking to get back on track with the launch of a new low end tape library.

The new library, ominously codenamed “Dreadnought” will be aimed at the low-end of the market, and is rumoured to be the lynchpin in a major new OEM partnership with Dell.

As reported in Byte and Switch, Overland CEO Chris Calisi says that the new platform will be “the densest libraries at the lowest price points in the industry.”

Price needs to be the major selling point if Overland hopes to take on NetApp in this market space. The company has not released any pricing details as yet, however as the Dreadnought is aimed at low-end branch offices the company is hinting at an aggressive price point.

The company is currently keeping availability information, like pricing, under wraps.
