Falconstor expands continuous data protection

Nov 3, 2005: Network storage software solution developer FalconStor Software have announced the expansion of its Continuous Data Protection (CDP) services to include host machines such as notebooks, desktops and exchange clusters using Direct Attached Storage (DAS) via their host-based replication solution, DiskSafe.

DiskSafe works with IPStor to provide CDP of an individual client, host or a cluster's direct-attached storage in a continuous or periodic mode, and in the background using industry standard protocols such as iSCSI or Fibre Channel. With DiskSafe, users can recover lost files, database, or disk, with the ability to remotely boot and reconstruct the entire system over IP.

"Remote office data and data directly attached to servers has historically been the hardest thing for IT to protect, and preparing such data for disaster recovery has often not been practical," said Mike Karp, senior analyst, enterprise management associates. "FalconStor's DiskSafe host-based CDP solution provides a centralised solution that ties isolated servers - local and remote - into a centralised server at the main office."

With replicas of the server volume, database and messaging servers now residing on the local iSCSI Storage Server, FalconStor's remote replication service provides another layer of protection by allowing replicated data to be transferred across any distance. This allows organisations to achieve rapid data recovery in the event of a primary disk failure or disaster.
