QLogic snaps up Troika

Oct 20, 2005: In a deal worth $36.5 million in cash, QLogic has announced its intention to acquire Troika Networks.

QLogic is a market leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters, stackable switches and blade server switches, and its acquisition of storage solution provider Troika is a great boost. Troika's acceleration technology is to be integrated into entry-level and mid-range QLogic virtualisation platforms hosting OEM and ISV software solutions, giving the company much greater scope for custom virtualisation solutions.

"OEMs are seeing a need for virtualisation solutions tailored to their customer's small and medium enterprises," said H.K Desai, QLogic's CEO and president. "To enable OEMs to respond to this need, QLogic will provide virtualisation platforms for OEMs to build high-performance, low-cost solutions with the software of their choice."

The acquisition is a boost for QLogic, but it is also a boon for Troika who are keen to become part of the QLogic family. "We are excited about joining QLogic, the industry leader in storage networking solutions for OEMs," said Bill Terrell, Troika's founder and CEO "There is a tremendous fit with the QLogic team as well as with their product focus."

Troika has an impressive array of storage applications, ranging from its SAN Volume Suite, a high-end enterprise storage management and data protection, to its Accelera Network Storage Services Platform, which is a network-based hardware platform for hosting a range of storage management and data protection applications.
