Maxtor touches 1TB

Maxtor touches 1TB

Oct 21, 2005: Maxtor have announced the release of its new OneTouch III Turbo Edition external hard drive. And at 1 terabyte with RAID 0 and RAID 1 capability, they certainly aren't messing around.

Capacity isn't everything however, so Maxtor is also intent on ensuring ease of use. Once upon a time dragging and dropping files to the backup drive may have wasted valuable seconds that could be spent deleting spam or checking eBay, but with full redundancy just 1 button press away there is no excuse for not regularly backing up your data.

The drive integrates Maxtor's automated backup and restore capabilities and allows users to easily configure the solution for either RAID 0 or RAID 1. If you aren't familiar with RAID, 0 divides the data streaming and writes it onto two disks simultaneously, essentially doubling read and write times. RAID 1 on the other hand, is like mirroring, taking everything written to the primary drive and copying it onto the backup drive on the fly ensuring redundancy and removing downtime if tragedy strikes.

Even if you aren't familiar with RAID, Maxtor have taken the complexity away with specific software tools to help configuration, synchronisation and repair after virus or spyware attacks.

"We've designed our new Maxtor OneTouch III, Turbo Edition to be the easiest, most trustworthy way to reap the benefits of RAID, and to back up and store photos, videos, games, music, business data and personal information in the most demanding environments." said Edwin Tien, country manager, Australia and New Zealand. "As a leader in consumer storage and backup solutions, our job is to help protect our customers' digital lives. We're thinking about the difficult things so our consumers don't have to. We want data backup and protection to be virtually effortless."

The OneTouch III Turbo is priced at AU$1,199 for the 600GB and AU$1,499 for the 1TB version.
