McAfee and Yahoo Partner for Secure Search

McAfee and Yahoo Partner for Secure Search

May 7, 2008: Yahoo has partnered with McAfee to integrate a security warning system into ranked search results.

Hot off the collapsed takeover bid by Microsoft, Yahoo has launched the beta of the new SearchScan feature of their search engine which will be powered by McAfee SiteAdviser. The new feature will provide users with alerts for risky sites that may contain malicious software such as spyware and adware.

"Through this partnership with McAfee, we can offer users a safer search experience and drive more users to make Yahoo! Search their starting point on the Web,” said said Vish Makhijani, senior vice president and general manager of Yahoo! Search.

During the beta period, SearchScan displays alerts optimised for Yahoo Search and does not yet include all of the McAfee SiteAdvisor red ratings.

"The advance warning offered by McAfee SiteAdvisor is one of the strongest weapons in the battle against online threats. Research indicates that 4 out of 5 Web site visits start with a search, and consumers who use Yahoo! Search will now be alerted to high-risk Web sites," said Tim Dowling, McAfee vice president, Web Security Group.
