Buffalo Releases SMB SAN Gear

May 9, 2008: As iSCSI storage systems gain popularity among small and medium-sized businesses Buffalo is moving in offer smaller firms the kind of storage and data consolidation technology previously reserved for enterprises.

iSCSI sends simple SCSI storage commands over standard TCP/IP networks to give servers the illusion of being locally attached disks despite the disks being located elsewhere on a network.

Buffalo's new TeraStation iSCSI and TeraStation Rackmount iSCSI take advantage of this to give SMBs greater storage flexibility, and more robust security when it comes to remote data.

“As companies grow and move increasing amounts of data to the datacentre for consolidation or to an off-site storage location, they experience the need for flexible and intuitive storage devices that make data storage handling simple, manageable and reliable,” said Takayuki Nishioka, CEO of Buffalo Technology.

“The new TeraStation iSCSI is a powerful SMB solution that delivers this extended functionality while still fitting into the budget of cost conscious SMB purchasers.”

The company says new iSCSI TeraStation storage devices allow organisations to tap into the flexibility and greater throughput performance of iSCSI SAN technology with the kind of affordability previously reserved for consumer NAS devices.
