EMC enhances security of video surveillance

Aug 10, 2005: EMC has launched a new solution that allows petabytes of video information and other data from surveillance cameras to be stored, archived and retrieved with ease, to enhance the analysis of this material for security purposes.

The EMC Surveillance Analysis and Management Solution (SAMS) is a combination of hardware, software and professional services to offer robust tools for video capture and load balancing video network bandwidth, content management and storage architectures.

It includes EMC CLARiiON storage arrays and EMC Centera content addressed storage systems, software and professional services, which are delivered in partnership with select members of the EMC Authorised Services Network (ASN) and leading security integrators.

It also integrates with analogue and digital security devices such as surveillance cameras, access control devices, intrusion detection systems, identity recognition systems, visitor management products, sensors and alarms.

Derrell James, the EMC senior vice president of technology solutions, said that with SAMS, customers can aggregate surveillance information from multiple sources.

"It offers integrated digital intelligence gathering and real-time response to problem situations. Additionally, the solution uses open, highly scalable technologies that integrate with existing surveillance systems, while allowing for long-term, cost-effective growth."

EMC added that the intelligent analytic software included in the solution produces faster and better analyses of information at the desktop, central station or via wireless devices; improved integration of surveillance with other security methods; and simplified, centralised management for command and control requirements.

With video surveillance requirements growing all the time, EMC believes that this service aims to help fill the demand for improved network and storage management capabilities as well as a need for an information lifecycle management approach to physical security.
