Two people arrested over Zotob worm

Aug 29, 2005: Two men have been arrested by Moroccan and Turkish authorities for their connection with the Zotob worm which recently attacked the ABC, American Express and The New York Times.

"Diablo", aka Farid Essebar, and "Coder", aka Atilla Ekici, aged 18 and 21 respectively will be prosecuted in the countries that they were arrested in.

Their nicknames can be identified from the code of Zotob.A, the worm connected to a server named "diablO.turkcoder.snet" and contained the words "Greetz to good friend Coder."

The FBI started the investigation and worked with Microsoft to track down where the worms started from, with the co-operation of law enforcement agencies in Morocco and Turkey.

In addition, a mobile virus has infected a company after several dozens of employees of the company received Bluetooth or MMS transmission of the virus during the day long outbreak. Over twenty of these employees actually opened the message on their phones and became infected with it.

F-Secure Corporation, which provides software that protects computers from viruses, said that this incident highlighted the importance of writing clear guidelines on Bluetooth and MMS operation for corporate use.
