Zeus Kerravala, the vice president of enterprise infrastructure for the Yankee Group, outlined by this kind of opportunity is so important.

"It is imperative today that enterprises find a way to help their associate who telecommute and travel a great deal to remain productive while accessing their communication applications in a secure, converged fashion."

3Com outlined the benefits of a secure, converged IP telecommuting solution being that it can enhance the mobility of employees by enabling the use of corporate IP telephony applications, such as IP conferencing, IP messaging, IP contact centre and other communication services form almost any location outside the LAN.

The company also claimed that the technology is no longer restricted to the office, and the 3Com IP Telecommuting module can make calls through the 3Com IP telephony systems from anywhere, including broadband-enabled airports, hotels and hospital, so long as there is access to an Internet connection.

In addition, mobile and remote users will be able to manage incoming calls by redirecting their office phone to a mobile phone, hotel room, or even a second or third office.
