Automatic backup for small businesses

Sept 01, 2005: Small businesses and home users will be able to have data automatically backed up to a central server to allow other business workers to share that information too if necessary.

The new Maxtor Shared Storage Plus also allows users to have their information automatically backed up and centralised wirelessly, and it can contain up to 500GB of content.

Maxtor believes that the new system is ideal for small business owners with multiple PCs on wired or wireless networks, who want to simultaneously backup, share and print digital files via one centralised location.

It can provide data management and security for up to 20 users and the drive is available in a 200GB, 300GB or 500GB storage capacity, including two USB ports to connect and share and two USB printers or two additional external storage drives.

Stacey Lund, the vice president of marketing at Maxtor Branded Products Group, talked about Maxtor Shared Storage Plus's software features.

"They maximise the simplicity and value for home and small business networks, such as the critical ability to backup precious digital files to the drive and built-in servers for shared printing and media streaming.

"Now our simple and elegant Maxtor backup experience is available across the entire family of Maxtor OneTouch external drives and Maxtor Shared Storage devices for consumers and small businesses."

In addition, the drive's new SimpleView feature acts like a built-in IT administrator, providing detailed backup and storage status at a glance to all users on the network.
