VoIP for Universites and healthcare receive reliability boost

Jul 01, 2005: Universities, healthcare organisations and financial institutions could soon be receiving more reliable VoIP systems thanks to a new agreement made between NEC and NetIQ.

This agreement will mean that NEC will integrate NetIQ's suite of VoIP management solutions into its IP telephony products to allow customers to go about their business more successfully.

Jay Krauser, the general manager of product management for NEC Unified Solutions, said that the NetIQ VoIP Management solution helps his company to prepare clients for their VoIP deployment as well as maximise the performance and availability of their IP telephony systems and applications.

"The organisations we work with require 99.999 percent reliability and cannot afford any downtime. If these mission-critical systems were not available or performing optimally, a significant amount of revenue could be lost."

David Taylor, the regional director for NetIQ Australia and New Zealand, said that this technology is needed because there is rapid growth in the VoIP market in Australia and New Zealand.

"As telephony moves onto the network, however, a great burden is being placed on IT executives to manage the applications and traffic running over the corporate network. With the right tools organisations can now check, at the click of a button, whether their network can support IP telephony.

"Once implemented, they can manage applications and traffic from one consol - cutting time and complexity for IT staff."
