Australia Post takes fresh steps to improve delivery

Jul 08, 2005: The supply chain visibility of domestic parcels sent through the mail in Australia could be improved now thanks to steps taken by Australia Post to improve the way it monitors bar-coded articles.

Viewlocity's Control Tower Platform has been selected by Australia Post to provide a single system to track all bar-coded domestic articles (parcels) as they travel through the country.

An Australia Post spokesperson, said that it has one of the most complex supply chains in the country because it serves one million customers daily through 4,477 retail outlets, in addition to delivering twenty million items of mail to more than 9.6 million delivery points and servicing more than 15,000 street posting boxes.

"We are constantly analysing and refining our processes, increasing supply chain visibility in an endeavour to provide quality services to our customers. With Viewlocity, in conjunction with its network of technology partners, we'll be able to increase this visibility, enhancing our Track Event Data Capture and Reporting solution."

Fadi Geha, Viewlocity's Asia Pacific, managing director, added that Australia Post realises the expectation on its shoulders for delivering a quality, affordable service to all mail-using Australians.

"This is why they've chosen to invest in enhancing their existing system to provide a single point of access for all queries dealing with bar-coded articles (parcels) within the Australia Post network.

"Implementing Viewlocity's solution into Australia Post's operations will not instantly solve all operational issues involved in mail delivery, but it will elevate the level of visibility and problem-solving capability."

Geha expects that this service will eventually represent an excellent example for other postal authorities to follow elsewhere.
