SOA brings people, processes and data closer together

SOA brings people, processes and data closer together

Jul 11, 2005: The implementation of a Service-Oriented Architecture can increase the usability of existing IT assets and reduce the expense of integrating applications that are so important to the organisations.

That is the claim made by Michael Hawkins, the general manager of business development for Software AG in Asia Pacific.

He believes that SOA can create true value by bringing together the three most important assets of any organisations, which are people, processes and data.

"We believe that rather than adopting a "rip and replace" approach to legacy systems, organisations should look at modernising these systems. Why replace something that has served an organisation well for many years, when the technology now exists to web-enable or web service-enable it?

"This leads to a greater ROI and business value because it doesn't cost as much to modernise a system as it does to completely replace it, and it is much less risky approach."

Hawkins added that XML is a key enabling technology that allows organisations to solve complex integration problems.

He also believes that Business Process Management and metadata repositories are critical in creating comprehensive SOA.
