Continuous access boost for SMBs

Jul 21, 2005: Small and medium businesses have been provided with a new opportunity to gain continuous access to their business data through a new system that allows them to migrate data from direct attached storage to storage area networks.

QLogic has released new products for its SAN Express line to help small and medium sized businesses to achieve higher utilisation of their storage and to better protect their business data.

These products include SANsurfer Express, which is a Windows-based software that can automatically discover and install a complete SAN in minutes and the SANbox Express 1000 Series Fibre Channel Switches, that features ten high performance 2 Gb ports in a package the size of a home router.

In addition, QLogic is releasing SANblade Express 200 Series Fibre Channel HBAs to connect servers to small workgroup SANs and SAN Express Starter Kit, a turnkey storage network with one switch.

Steve Duplessie, the founder and senior analyst for enterprise strategy group, said that QLogic has been providing great technologies inside many of the storage products used up and down the enterprise.

"The company is innovating again by putting their technologies into simplistic packages for small to medium businesses. While storage people often overlook this market - it can't be ignored any longer. All the significant growth - in almost any metric you care to measure, will come from the SMB space."
