Dell eyes up future success in printer and laptops

Apr 11, 2005: The recent success of Dell has prompted it to concentrate on more diverse business offerings, which involves expanding from making desktop PC to providing more printers, laptops, storage systems and networks servers to boost its revenue.

This is all part of a strategy to help it reach its latest revenue target of US $80 bullion within the next three or four years, and it hopes that a wider base of products will attract for sales in the long-term.

It has set this target after achieving US$50 billion in sales last year, which is due to cutting the price of PCs to challenge their rivals.

Kevin Rollins, Dell's chief executive officer, said: "Our growth and profitability are based on a disciplined approach to defining new product and service categories accelerating growth in existing businesses, and extending the value we create for customers in all of those areas."

He announced this shortly after its first quarter results revealed that Dell it is US$13.4 billion up (16 percent) from the prior year, and earnings per share of 37 cents are up by 32 percent too.

It also intends to spend US$2 billion to repurchase stock during the current quarter, which is more than Double Dell's original expectation.

Dell has also told analysts that it expects earnings per share and cash flow from operations to continue to outgrow sales whilst it achieves its target of US$80 billion.
