EMC eases the pressure for SMBs

Mar 10, 2005: Research carried out by EMC over the past few years has revealed that medium-sized businesses and SMBs are competing on the same level playing field with enterprises and therefore need a simple plan to cope with a heavy load of information needed to be processed to keep them competitive.

EMC has unveiled a new approach, called Making Storage Simple, for these companies in a bid to simplify the way they acquire, deploy and manage information on budgets that are considerably smaller than enterprises.

This new approach involves a wide range of EMC systems, software and services expertise designed to help hundreds of thousands of mid-sized enterprises and SMBs around the world deal with this explosive information growth by helping them to more effectively store, backup, archive and protect critical application data.

EMC is releasing a series of EMC Express Solutions, which involve storage hardware, services and software from its acquisitions over the last three years.

Mike Fisch, a senior analyst with The Clipper Group, technology acquisition consultants, said the EMC Express Solutions combine good products, a trusted brand, turnkey packaging with services, and easy procurement.

"Mid-sized enterprises tend to be underserved, and we expect these solutions will be well received because they address the information storage problems faced by businesses of all sizes."

David Goulden, the EMC executive vice president of Customer Operations, added: "Making Storage Simple was created especially for customers in the mid-sized enterprise and SMB segments. The message from these customers was clear: 'We want advanced functionality, at an affordable price, packaged for simple deployment'.

"The Express Solutions are purpose-built with these requirements in mind, and we've made it easier for our partners to deliver them. These customers don't simply want point products, they want a complete solution with a roadmap to support their future growth."

The Express Solutions include one each for networked storage, backup and recovery, archiving and business protection.

The Express Solution for networked storage aims to help customers consolidate information and improve centralised management for direct attached storage, storage area network, network attached storage and iSCSI environments.

In terms of backup and recovery, EMC is offering a package to help businesses improve the reliability and speed of backup and recovery processes to make sure data is available all the time.

The archiving solutions will allow customers to reduce the overall cost of storing online data while complying with regulatory requirements.

EMC aims to reduce business risks by enabling cost-effective remote copying of online and archived application data so that information can be quickly accessed to recover from primary site outages.
