EDS' major multi-vendor alliance targets Asia-Pacific

Mar 16, 2005: EDS is looking to gain an important advantage in the Asia-Pacific market by joining forces with a number of other major global players to jointly develop IT products and services in the region.

Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and Fuji Xerox are the foundation members of the EDS Agility Alliance.

An early priority for the alliance is the development of the EDS Agile Enterprise Platform, which will align IT systems in core areas such as networking, workplace management, hosting and storage infrastructure, applications and business processes.

Phil Pryke, EDS vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific, said the alliance would give EDS and its partners a significant business advantage in the region.

"It's not unusual for companies to forge one-on-one partnerships, but there has never been such a commitment from industry leaders to unite in this multilateral way.

"Agility is the key word as the structure introduces a flexible technology foundation that will enable our clients to respond quickly to changing market dynamics.

"They will have access to the combined resources of the world's major technology companies, but with the convenience of EDS being their single point of accountability and at the lowest combined cost," he claimed.

Technologists from the partner companies have already been seconded to the EDS Asia Pacific Solution Response Centre in Sydney to work as an integrated team on joint business solutions.

The alliance partners are embedded in all aspects of the EDS business, including sales, marketing portfolio development, production engineering and service delivery. EDS and its alliance partners are already developing joint business and marketing plans.

"Having the ability to draw on the collective R&D might of our alliance partners is a huge advantage," added Pryke.

"Each member has been chosen for its leadership in a particular technology domain.  Together we can deliver an integrated technology and business services solution that has no industry equivalent."

Oracle, SAP, Siebel and Towers Perrin have also recently joined the global alliance.  Details of how these partners will work with EDS in the Asia Pacific are to be announced at a later date.
