HP's first post-Carly results show networked storage revenue dip

HP has reported its first quarterly financial results since the sudden departure of CEO Carly Fiorina, with the figures returning disappointing numbers for networked storage revenue, but decent returns overall.

Overall revenue for the first quarter ended Jan 31, 2005, increased 10 percent year-over-year to US$21.5 billion.

Enterprise Storage and Servers (ESS) reported revenue of US$4.0 billion, up 9 percent over the prior-year period, but the company's server business considerably outperformed the storage side, with industry-standard server revenue having increased 19 percent year-on-year, but business-critical systems revenue down 2 percent and networked storage revenue down 1 percent on the corresponding quarter a year ago.

HP's storage software business fared better, with revenue growth more or less in line with the 19 percent growth of the storage software market as a whole in 2004.
