Google's drives major searches with new mini

Jan 14, 2004: Google has released a new box aimed at helping smaller businesses to find critical documents stored inside each company's internal systems, with the ability to search up to 50,000 documents.

Google Mini is an integrated hardware/software search appliance that can index all of the content within a company's Intranet or public website so that it can be found with the same simplicity and results as users find with Google.com.

Google claims that it this new box will be especially useful for businesses such as consulting firms, educational institutions, state and local governments, and non-profit organisations.

Dave Girouard, the general of Google's enterprise business said: "We believe high-quality searches makes businesses faster and more efficient, and that companies of any size can realise these benefits.

"Whether it's an employee finding the information she needs to do a better job or a customer connecting with the right product or service, Google search can improve productivity, increase revenues and reduce costs."

In addition, Google is developing improvements to its enterprise search appliance, which is targeted at the enterprise market.

These new improvements will include non-web accessible content being pushed into the Google Search Appliance with a simple XML conversion and it will also monitor the system's health, appliance crawling and serving statistics.
