Jan 21, 2005: Microsoft has released a new service to help users have access to treat their Outlook accounts and Hotmail accounts as one to enable them to manage information better when they work out of the office.
Outlook Live has been launched as a subscription service to allow customers to view and manage all of their personal information, such as email accounts, contacts and calendars in one convenient place from anywhere.
The service will provide 2GB of online storage, the ability to send 20MB attachments and the most up-to-date spam and virus protection software.
Blake Irving, the corporate vice president for the MSN communication services and member platform group at Microsoft, said: "Outlook Live is the most advanced consumer email service available from Microsoft and is perfect for individuals who really want to get the most out of their email.
"MSN is committed to delivering a range of free and subscription email services to meet customer needs, and Outlook Live is the perfect addition to our portfolio. We're thrilled to offer the service to our customers."
Chris Capossela, the corporate vice president for the information worker product management group at Microsoft, added: "By collaborating with MSN, we've been able to create a great service for our collective customers. Outlook Live brings the best of two worlds together, making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy the benefits of Microsoft Office Outlook to manage their busy lives."
Other features of Outlook Live, include the ability for users to share calendars with other Hotmail or MSN email subscribers, viewing them side-by-side on a single screen.
Any updates made using Outlook, such as deleting messages and adding a new contact to schedule a meeting, are automatically also made in MSN Mail or MSN Hotmail too.
In addition, the protection software used scans for and helps eliminate harmful viruses before they reach the computer. 500 address or domains can also be blocked too, if necessary.
