NEC gets into the groove with SANmelody

DataCore's SANmelody Disk Server Software will be incorporated into NEC Soft's product portfolio to help end users with storage consolidation, backup difficulties, disaster recovery, auto-provisioning, replication and capacity expansion over SANs and LANs.

Under the OEM agreement, NEC will resell a SANmelody software based storage system named "MelodiousStor". The disk server software is expected to allow NEC Soft to provide a wide range of solutions and services including system consulting, design, implementation, non-disruptive capacity upgrades and support in an integrated package.

Peter Thompson, the managing director of APAC of DataCore Software Corporation, said: "NEC Soft has tremendous presence and a deep grasp of storage and networking practices. They have the ability to provide valuable services plus the know-how to deploy new capabilities like SANmelody disk servers in order to radically simplify and cost reduce user IT environments."

Masayuki Yoshimura, the general manager of the platform systems division within NEC Soft, Ltd, added: "Storage demand is significantly increasing because of Internet expansion. Also data availability severely impacts enterprises, especially if you consider unpredictable terrorism and natural disasters.

"With this as a background, effective management of storage assets and the preparation of backup recovery environments are really an urgent matter for most enterprises. MelodiousStor announcement answers multiple corporate problems and concerns in need of storage management solutions. DataCore's SANmelody software powers these new solutions."

NEC is planning on installing about 300 systems over the next three years.
