Nov 11th, 2004: A new monitoring and analysis system has been unveiled to oversee the performance and health of SANs so that faults can be discovered early and dealt with before they become a problem that can have a detrimental impact on business activities.
Finisar Corporation has released NetWisdom 2.0, which allows enterprises to quickly view the performance of their entire SAN make-up to prevent SAN outages and downtime, which can cost companies from tens of thousands to millions of dollars a minute.
NetWisdom provides proactive alerts on issues before they impact on applications for any system made by any vendor.
Kevin Cornell, the senior vice president and general manager of the network tools division at Finisar, said: "With NetWisdom, individuals responsible for managing the Storage Area Network now have a deep insight into how their SAN is functioning.
"If there is a problem with the SAN causing performance or availability issues, we can isolate the problem and even show how to resolve it. If a problem occurs in the infrastructure while SAN is functioning properly, we can eliminate the SAN as the cause."
The features of NetWisdom 2.0 include a dashboard display that provides a snapshot of the whole SAN fabric performance at a glance.
It allows users to identify queue depths, most active drives, slowest drives, early detection of device degradation, bottlenecks& errors to minimise costly downtime.
In addition, it also has alarms for errors, traffic speedometers and real-time, accurate accounting of bandwidth utilisation.
