eBay opens profit margin to resellers

Oct 11th, 2004: eBay Inc. is developing a value-added resellers (VAR) and reseller program so that it can bring OEMs, distributors, retailers and remarketers into it business because it sees a very lucrative future in this area.

This will be eBay's first formal channel program after looking at 10,000 VAR companies and finding that approximately 25,000 provided asset recovery and disposition.

eBay discovered that the average solution provider who takes part with asset disposition recovery collects about $375,000 of business a year.

VARs and resellers have been using eBay for a number of years now to sell used and new computer parts, and some have found this system to be very successful.

The idea behind the program is to let VARs easily put their customers' old laptops and desktop computers up for sale.

VARs will be able to maintain their own branding while offering their goods to eBay shoppers.

It is similar to the provider of auction management software operated by eBay Certified Provider Dealtree.
