New compliance service for emails

Equant has teamed up with EMC Legato and Kahn Consulting to provide a fully managed email archiving service to ensure that companies comply with regulations such as Sarabanes-Oxley.

Equant will utilise EMC Legato's EmailXtender and EmailXaminer software from its hosting centres in Atlanta, London, France and Sydney to provide policy review and development, training, changed management and managed archiving services.

The company hopes that the message archiving service will be helpful to organisations that also regulations driven by SEC 17a-4, NASD-3010 and FDA CFR 21 Part 11.

The cost of the service will depend on storage requirements, the number of users and the location of the servers.

Equant aims to roll out a shared platform version of the this service for small and medium sized businesses by the end of 2005.

This new service will compete directly with IBM's on-demand offerings and its typical rival AT&T in the managed hosting market.

The company claims that the service will take the entire email infrastructure to help ease the worry of making sure they are up to date on compliance and policy issues.
