Raid disk storage charge loses pace

A new report provided by Gartner has revealed that the sales outlook for RAID disk storage systems, used at large enterprises to hold information for mainframe computers, will not be as high as expected in the future.

According to Gartner, RAID sales will probably hit US$13.8 billion this year, which is less than the US$13.9 billion amount estimated earlier this year.

Gartner claims that this is partly because of the trouble recently at HP, which has experienced falling revenues recently in their storage and server revenues.

HP recently had to replace three executives after poor performance in its enterprise servers and storage unit led to unfavourable financial results.

However, HP is prepared to make a comeback and is very proud of its record of having the number one share in total worldwide storage revenues.

It claims to have the industry's broadest storage portfolio and exciting new innovations, which it believes will move customers forward.

EMC meanwhile has experienced increased revenues, jumping from 17.4 percent to US$756.6 million in the second quarter, and its market share rose by 2.5 percent to 23.1 percent.

IBM was third, with 13.2 percent of the share, with Sun, Hitachi, Dell and Network Appliance following in afterwards.
