IBM veteran jumps ship

EMC has taken on the chief architect of IBM's Grid computing to be its new chief technology office in charge of EMC's technology strategy and the evolution of its information lifecycle management software and services.

Jeff Nick has served at IBM for 24 years and will fill the CTO position that has been vacant since Mark Lewis was made executive vice president of Open Software Operations in July 2003.

During his career, Nick filed more than 80 inventions and holds more than 50 U.S. patents in computer systems technology. He was most recently responsible for the design and architecture of IBM's On Demand initiative.

He also let IBM's Grid Computing strategy and created the definition and evolution of IBM's Open Grid Services Architecture.

Nick will work directly with EMC customers and leading technologists within EMC's platforms, software and services organisations to develop future product directions.

His team will also evaluate emerging information management trends and play a major role in setting the technical direction for EMC.
