SNIA boosts intelligence for storage community

The Storage Networking Industry Association has created the SNIA Education Continuum to provide end users in the IT industry with invaluable knowledge about how to improve their storage facilities.

This will be a vendor neutral programme to help IT professionals, product managers and developers to better develop and deploy storage products through improved understanding of practices, technologies and standards.

The Continuum will provide guidance and training for vendors to make the most out of their storage networking by opening them up to the experience and knowledge of experts in the IT industry.

Randy Kerns, senior partner at the Evaluator Group said. "The SNIA Education Continuum provides a great step for industry participants to expand their educational opportunities and their careers. End users and customers in particular will be interested in many aspects of the Continuum as a way to gain hands-on experience with existing and emerging storage technologies in a vendor neutral setting. This will help them make more informed purchasing decisions, as well as be better equipped to get the most out of their storage infrastructure."

Marty LeFebvre, vice president of technology strategy at Nielsen Media Research and a member of the SNIA End User Council Governing Board said that a recent survey identified many issues for IT professionals.

These include the need to provide education and certification programmes for storage administrators, whilst also improving the adoption of standards and best practices.

This Continuum aims to add value to the storage networking community by offering certification; an education framework; storage and networking tutorials and booklets; a dictionary of storage technology; roadshows, workshops and conference sessions.
