DiData helping to beat the hackers

Dimension Data Learning Solutions (DDLS), the IT training subsidiary of the global technology company Dimension Data, has signed a licensing agreement with security company Foundstone to run the first national hacking defence training course in Australia.

Not a remedy for poor golfers, but rather a ground-breaking course designed to help organisations fend off unwanted intruders from their IT networks. The course will be run at DDLS' premises throughout the country on Foundstone’s behalf from August. The agreement between the two companies comes a year after Dimension Data invited Foundstone to demonstrate its Enterprise Security System at AusCERT 2003 and trial the security course in Sydney and Melbourne.

“Security is the most important issue facing CIOs today.  Yet it is not something you can just purchase, but rather requires a mentality that pervades the organisation, as led by the IT department,” said Steve Ross, General Manager of DDLS.

“Without the right people trained and skilled to protect, detect and respond to security issues, ‘out-of-the-box’ security systems are useless.  It is in response to this need for security training, both in government and corporate Australia, that we have joined forces with Foundstone,” he added.

In order to secure and monitor a company’s network, IT workers need to understand how to identify vulnerabilities by thinking like a hacker. The course provides in-depth instruction from Dimension Data's IT Security Consultants on performing attack and penetration assessments, exposing the latest in network vulnerabilities and defences.

“Security vulnerabilities are the Achilles heel of today's computing networks. When exploited by internal or external users, these weaknesses can cause catastrophic problems for organisations,” said Neil Campbell, national security practice manager, Dimension Data.
