HP mobilises digital data

HP has created a mobile digital storage drive designed for storing videos, digital photography and audio material that can be attached to either a notebook or PC, providing 160 gigabytes of additional storage.

When used with the HP Media Center PC, this new HP Personal Media Drive can be inserted without having to open the PC case or turn the PC on or off. It can just be attached to a port that supports the common USB standard.

2,600 hours of high-quality digital audio, up to 180,000 digital photographs and up to 160 hours of standard-quality video footage can be stored on the system.

Randy Giusto, vice president of personal technology and services at the IDC said. "The ability to take your data with you whether that's around the house or while away from home, will become key to consumers as they wish to interact with their digital data throughout the day. In addition, as Media Center PC customers grow their libraries of digital content, it will become increasingly important to provide not only portability, but easy-to-use backup capabilities too."

Once the drive is inserted, users can transfer large data files to the drive or set it as their primary storage mechanism.

Users can set their HP Media Center PC to record digital data directly onto the HP Personal Media Drive.

The drive can be used with the new HP Media Center PC or as a second, external hard drive with other computers. Either way, memories and content are backed up securely and users have the ability to take their digital content wherever they want to go.
