Iomega boosts desktop storage

Iomega has released a new 160GB desktop hard drive which offers a safety net that protects important files from data disasters by automatically backing them up, adding increased security.

The Iomega HDD 160GB USB 2.0 Desktop Hard Drive is designed for the desktop with fast 7200 RPM performance and "touch-free" backup software, providing a simpler solution for managing music, photos, video and other data files.

Chris McPherson, the managing director for the Iomega Corporation in the Asia Pacific said. "Digital photography, downloadable music, and digital video camcorders, as well as an endless variety of data files, continue to create increased demand for desktop storage.

"The new HDD 160GB Desktop Hard Drive not only gives users what they want - more space - but also what they need - more security. Automatic backup of all their important files is the safety net that can protect them from data disasters."

The USB 2.0 drive includes Iomega's Automatic Backup software, which means that users do not have to count on remembering to push a button or run a program. Instead, they simply select the files and folders to protect, set the backup schedule, and let Iomega Automatic Backup software do the rest.

All they have to do for restoring data is to drag and drop it wherever they would like it to go.

The Automatic Backup software has been advanced with the following features. It now allows personalised backup schedules to be made, supports multiple backup locations, DVD, CD, hard drives, network drives, and solid-state memory cards and caches backup data when backup media is unavailable.
