Users grill IBM over services

IBM users from a broad range of industries, including the government, law firms and top branded companies such as Coca Cola will meet the people this week who write the code, create the software and hardware for IBM to discuss how the technology can be best utilised to improve business performance.

About 400 people are expected to attend the annual Interaction Conference being held this week between August 9th-11th at the Carlton Crest Hotel, Albert Park Lane, in Melbourne.

They will have the chance to talk to IBM software and hardware makers from around the world who can explain exactly why the code was built, how it can be best used to solve problems and provide advise about how to overcome any hurdles posed by the products.

Michael Sumner, president of the Interaction IBM User Group, and Coca-Cola Amatil's IT operations manager, who is one of the volunteers responsible for organising the conference said:

"You will rarely find a better opportunity in the year to talk to the people at the highest level in IBM. The only other time you could get such a high calibre group of people together would be if a fire alarm was set off at IBM's head quarters.

"Speakers such as Frank Soltis, the chief scientist of IBM's iSeries, Terri Virnig, the vice president of worldwide strategy for zSeries and Joel Tender, the program director of technology assessment in IBM's server group, who is responsible for assessing emerging technologies for applicability in future iSeries and pSeries eServer product offerings, will all be available to talk to.

"Users will not only be able to quiz them about technology, but they will also be able to test the latest technology in a laboratory which is set up at the conference too."

The Power 5 chip is expected to be one of the hottest technologies up for discussion and testing at the conference, along with grid computing and virtualisation.

It is not too late to register here and join the conference so you can meet some of the brightest creators at IBM.
