Improved immunity to company insecurity

Symantec will release a new security appliance at the end of this month to prevent organisations from being attacked by viruses, worms, blended threats and authorisation infringements.

The Symantec Network Security 7100 Series can be integrated into the network to activate blocks on potential attacks. It communicates directly with Symantec's Global Central Nervous System, which has sensors all around the world, including Sydney, for detecting harmful threats at the stage when they can be stopped.

The Symantec Network Security 7100 Series is fed this data so that it know which threats are out there for it to shut down.

It uses the new Intrusion Mitigation Unified Network Engine (IMUNEO), which redefines comprehensive network protection by combining multiple detection technologies such as protocol anomaly detection, vulnerability attack interception, signature recognition, denial-of-service and scan detection, and IDS evasion detection.

Symantec claims that this is a revolutionary approach to detecting and blocking today's ever-changing security threats in real time, The IMUNEO architecture stops worms from propagating and blocks malicious threats with the highest level of accuracy.

In addition, it aims to protect users from network infrastructure attacks, application exploits, scans, probes, denial-of-service attempts, backdoors and blended threats like MS Blaster and SQL Slammer.

Andy Norton, the director of product marketing at Symantec in the Asia Pacific, said: "This new appliance can be integrated seamlessly and rapidly. The IMUNEO system works like a human immune system. It can detect something abnormal entering the network and blocks it out before it infiltrates and harms the system.

"In addition, being connected up to our Global Nervous System makes it unique. No other intrusion prevention appliance has this advantage. It has 20,000 sensors in 180 countries worldwide, spanning 10,000 devices. It can detect seismic activity which can then be beamed directly into the 7100 series to activate prevention in the network."

The 7100 produces thorough reports of threats that could infect the system and which threats have been eradicated, or slipped through, to meet compliance auditing requirements imposed by government regulations.

At the click of a button, the system can be automated to sweep away the threat of any potential attack.

It offers 24.7 real-time services to enhance an organisation's information security posture through continuous monitoring and management, expert analysis, and immediate response to potential security threats.
