IBM Acquires Diligent Deduplication Technology

April 22, 2008: IBM has given its data storage and de-duplication capabilities a leg up with the acquisiting of the storage specialist Diligent Technologies.

You don’t have to be clairvoyant to see that data de-duplication and virtualisation are hot at the moment, so it is no wonder IBM is keen to add Diligent’s in-line data de-duplication software to its offerings.

Diligent’s technology integrates with server and storage infrastructure to help reduce the amount of physical storage required in data centres and, according to the firm, provides a single solution to support data protection, archive and data-retention applications – all while maintaining the integrity of the data.

IBM says Diligent will be an important part of its “New Enterprise Data Centre” model, which is based on best practices for virtualisation, green IT, service management and cloud computing. IBM says this enables it to help clients improve IT efficiency while facilitating deployment of new IT services for future business growth.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
