Adaptec Launches RAID Controllers

March 5, 2008: Adaptec has launched its new Series 5 RAID controllers at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany this week, saying it can deliver unprecedented performance and scalability with the industry’s first seamless 28-port connectivity.

The company says the RAID Series 5 Unified Serial controller family is the first solution to offer up to 28-port connectivity with both internal and external ports, and can achieve I/O performance up to five times faster than its peers.

Up to 256 SATA or SAS drives can be connected to a single system for around 200TB of storage capacity, while its new PCIe interface controllers are designed to handle a wide range of bandwidth-intensive applications such as Web hosting, digital video surveillance, medical imaging and communications.

Adaptec says the solution enables system integrators and OEMs to create tiered storage environments that ensure scalability while simplifying the development and validation process.

“Our Series 5 controller family represents yet another Adaptec engineering milestone,” says Suresh Panikar, Adaptec’s Worldwide Marketing director. “The engine for this innovation is Adaptec's Unified Serial Architecture platform which has set the benchmark in the data storage arena.”
