Fujitsu unveils record-breaking 300GB hard disk drive

Fujitsu has released its new MAT and MAU series enterprise hard disk drives, which break two storage records to improve the performance of its enterprise storage solutions.

Fujitsu's MAT series hard disk drive is the industry's first 75GB/sq.in 4-platter enterprise drive that has a capacity of 300GB in a 10K RPM 3.5" form. In addition, the MAU series is the industry's first 15K RPM, 147GB 4-platter drive in the market.

Compared with previous generation models, storage capacity has been doubled, and internal transfer rates have increased by 25 percent.

Joel Hagberg, vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Computer Products of America said. "Fujitsu's new 300GB enterprise hard disk drive is a tremendous technology accomplishment at 75GB/sq. inch in a 4-platter design. This hard disk drive allows customers to build and deploy storage systems that offer significant enterprise storage capacity with a focus on cost effective performance.

"This is an exciting time for Fujitsu as we increase capacity and performance, lead the transition to small form factors, and continue to deliver industry leading quality."

Both of these models also include a 8MB data buffer for optimising the overall drive performance and Fujitsu's Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology assures that the operations run quietly.

System designers who make rack optimised tower servers, disk systems and RAID systems should be pleased with the accelerated performance and flexibility provided with these products.

Fujitsu's interface variations will also make it easy for the drives to be configured with DAS, NAS and SAN storage environments.

Fujitsu's recent announcements also include the release of the first fully working 3GB/s, serial attached SCSI dive.
