Symantec Unveils Endpoint Encryption
March 7, 2008: Symantec has announced a new endpoint encryption offering, promising advanced encryption for desktop, laptops and removable storage devices.
Aptly enough called Symantec Endpoint Encryption, the software is an enterprise-level security solution that the company says can prevent unauthorised endpoint access thanks to strong encryption and access control technologies.
Designed to both protect sensitive information and mitigate the risks of data loss, the software can be managed, administered and deployed centrally, and can also be synchronised with Microsoft Active Directory for group policy management.
Additionally, Symantec says Endpoint Encryption is fully compliant with government audit reporting and other regulatory requirements.
According to Symantec’s Internet Security Threat Report, between January and July in 2007, the theft or loss of computer or other data-storage mediums made up 46 percent of all data breaches that could lead to identity theft. This information coupled with high-profile incidents such as the UK government’s HMRC data loss scandal highlights just how important encryption of sensitive data has become.
“As the amount of information generated by businesses continues to increase and is stored on a growing number of endpoint devices that may be compromised, lost or stolen, encryption should be applied, based on policy, to help protect sensitive information and interactions as part of a larger information protection strategy,” says Brian Foster, vice president, product management for Symantec.
