Aventis choose Ducumentum for huge ECM rollout

Enterprise content management (ECM) software provider Documentum has announced that global pharmaceutical company Aventis has implemented the first stage of the Documentum ECM platform in Australia, and plans to roll out the solution to 15 countries within Asia Pacific over the next 12 months as part of the company's global standardisation in content management.

The news is a further boost to Documentum, which is currently the subject of a takeover bid from storage vendor EMC.

Aventis, is using the Document ECM solution in Australia for three areas of its business: regulatory affairs, finance (archiving and retrieval) and legal (retrieval of all current legal documents). In Documentum, Aventis has licensed a standards-based, comprehensive platform to create, manage, deliver and archive web content, documentation and records in compliance with regulatory requirements worldwide.

"The Documentum ECM platform will be used by our regulatory affairs, legal andfinance departments in Australia," said Graham Veness, Aventis head of IS commercial operations North and South Asia. "We need version controls for regulatory and compliance work when dealing with government bodies as the pharmaceutical industry is strictly controlled. This involves complete document management and easy retrieval of information for all our divisions including legal and accounts.

"Our goal is to use Documentum to assist in the standardisation of Aventis information and delivery around the Asia Pacific region. The Documentum ECM solution is a key enabler of that process enabling us to integrate content and data, and improve the delivery of that information so that any of the 15 countries are able to access any document in the region within their levels of authority. Another advantage of standardising is that you build up a knowledge centre which other countries in the region can tap into."

Documentum Managing Director, Australia/New Zealand, Graham Pullen said theDocumentum ECM platform is gaining growing acceptance with key corporations because of its strengths and efficiencies in regulated industries, a key driver for many industries such as pharmaceuticals that have to deal with compliance issues.

"That Aventis has chosen Documentum as its global standard, and is continuing to expand its use of our platform through the Asia-Pacific region, is testimony to our strengths in the enterprise content management arena, and typifies a growing trend to use our solution in regulated industries."
