HP Upgrades ProLiant Platforms

March 25, 2008: Hewlett Packard (HP) has announced an upgrade to its ProLiant platform that will incorporate virtualisation technologies into the server environment.

The new offering will be known as ProLiant iVirtualisation and will focus on lowering costs, improving productivity and boost resource allocation efficiency. The technology stems from HP joining with VMware, Citrix and Microsoft to develop the solution for the ProLiant and BladeSystem series.

“iVirtualization combines our industry-leading ProLiant servers with multiple virtualization technologies, then adds a high level of integration and management capabilities to deliver an unrivaled user experience,” said Scott Farrand, vice president, Industry Standard Server Software, HP. “By better managing their technology infrastructures and resources using virtualization, customers will have more time to focus on initiatives that impact their bottom line.”

In addition to the hardware upgrades, enhanced virtualisation controls will be added to HP's Systems Insight Manager, Virtual Machine Management and the Server Migration pack.
