Leading Solutions acquires Scala Australia

Australian IT solutions provider Leading Solutions has acquired Scala Australia, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based collaborative ERP software developer Scala Business Solutions for an undisclosed fee.

Worldwide, Scala is a $US73.4 million company with more than 55,000 users in 7,500 locations in over 140 countries.

Leading Solutions’ offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will offer the full range of Scala products and services. Scala’s flagship product, iScala 2.1 is the world’s first purpose-built collaborative Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. This software integrates Internet technology and traditional ERP functionality and simplifies global business.

Frank Colli, managing director of Leading Solutions, said that a number of multinationals in Australia that use Tier 1 packages such as SAP in their central and regional headquarters, choose to deploy Scala software in their smaller subsidiaries.

"Scala was chosen by these companies because it provides similar functionality at a fraction of the cost per user."

Colli also outlined the Leading Solutions' rationale behind the acquisition.

“One of the reasons for acquiring Scala Australia is that we see an excellent synergy that will benefit end users.

“While Scala was primarily focussed on the ERP software solution, Leading Solutions can now enhance this capability, providing a total IT solution from hardware and software right through to web interfacing and technical support. Leading Solutions also brings the highest levels of certification and qualified staff in Citrix, Microsoft, Novell, Cisco and WatchGuard.

“Another advantage in adding a comprehensive software solution to the Leading Solutions’ family is that many clients in our 10,000 customer base would benefit from Scala’s ERP solution. So we see opportunities to increase the Scala business in Australia,” he said.

The business will be operated as a distinct group, similar to Leading Solutions' Connected Systems Group. Leading Solutions will also maintain the highest level of partnership with Scala Business Solutions – that of Scala Accredited Solution Partner.

Scala Australia's staff will now operate out of Leading Solutions' offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. National manager of the new group is Gayle Leuenberger, who has been general manager of Scala Australia for the last three years.
