Storage software vendor Legato is playing an increasing role in the content management space and added to its portfolio this week with the announcement that its ApplicationXtender system now supports SAP enterprise resource planning suites.

Supporting SAP's R3 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, ApplicationXtender claims to provide end users with a system to capture and organise information for use and storage. The application can manage documents, images, video, audio and COLD forms of data, providing users with a digital asset management system.

Legato said in a statement that the aim behind integrating wit SAP is to offer end users a system that will incorporate their documents into the SAP system. This will bring Legato into a rivalry with document and content management vendors IXOS, which also heralds from Germany and is part owned by SAP.

ApplicationXtender has high levels of security for maintaining the rights of documents and assets and incorporates a data upload function for automatic uploads of documents from the ApplicationXtender system.
